South Coast Air Quality Management District Amended Rule 1146.2 Online class

S.C.A.Q.M.D. has amended Rule 1146.2, impacting all gas-fired appliances 75,000 btu-2,000,000 btu. Implementation begins in three phases starting January 1st 2026 phasing out, and prohibiting the sale, installation and operation of these appliances within S.C.A.Q.M.D jurisdiction. Mandatory “Zero Emission” replacement of existing equipment within the S.C.A.Q.M.D. jurisdiction begins January 1st 2028-2033.

The original Rule 1146.2 was an 8-page document. The amended document recently released by S.C.A.Q.M.D. is a 307-page document including their work group studies and summations. We’ve consolidated the new requirements into a 45-minute presentation, with 15-minutes questions afterwards.

Steve McCool entered the industry in 1985. He has over a decade of experience as a plumbing and mechanical contractor. He spent 15 years with a commercial boiler and water heater manufacturer; positions included Commercial Products Manager, So. California Sales Manager, Central Atlantic Sales Manager. Steve joined Dawson Company in 2012 to serve as a sales and technical support resource to end users of all varieties. He serves as an advisory, and technical resource to businesses, universities, colleges and school districts. He has served on product advisory councils with multiple commercial gas-fired boiler, and water heater manufacturers. Steve presents at both ASPE and ASHRAE events in Los Angeles, Orange Co. and San Diego on related subjects of gas-fired systems and hybrid gas-fired/heat pump water heating systems.
